Illuminating the Word: The Saint John’s Bible

Several years ago St. John’s University and Abbey commissioned a rare work of art. The St. John’s Bible is an illuminated manuscript in the truest form. This hand written, hand illustrated large format bible took over five years to create. Smithsonian Magazine calls it “One of the most extraordinary undertakings of our times.” The lead artist is Donald Jackson of Wales. He is also the calligrapher to the Queen of England. This bible is a contemporary marvel and should not be missed. Sacred texts from Islam, Judaism, and Taoism will also be on display.
