No Burgers! – No Butts! This is the motto of this little Caribbean joint in the middle of Hudson, Wisconsin. So if you are looking for a place to have a burger a light up, don’t bother to drive all the way out here. If great Caribbean flavors, wood fired pizza or big breakfasts are your fancy then get behind the wheel and head east.
San Pedro Café is located on the historic main street of Hudson. The stone exterior and large windows create a laid back and welcoming atmosphere for any time of day. Once inside, the rustic interior and creative use of the cozy space makes it easy to feel at home. Whether you are seated at the counter facing the tiny open kitchen or at a table near the window you are sure to be treated like a regular. The friendly staff has adopted the Caribbean attitude to go with the theme of the restaurant and will have you smiling within minutes.

The breakfasts at San Pedro Café are large and flavorful. There are plenty of choices for all tastes but the hearty savory choices are the perfect weekend palate pleaser. The Breakfast Quesadilla has fried eggs layered between corn tortillas with smoked ham, red beans, cheddar cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream ($7). Even heartier is the Hammock Breakfast ($7). The scrambled eggs are mixed with onions, peppers, mushrooms, potatoes and cheese. All of this is wrapped in a large flour tortilla and covered in the house made smoked chipotle-ranchero sauce. If you must have meat with your breakfast, for a dollar more you can add the wood smoked ham. Of course there are the breakfast staples such as muffins, cereals, sweet rolls or granola and all for only $2.

For lunch or dinner the wood fired pizzas are well worth the drive. There are thirteen choices and that does not include the breakfast pizza or the create your own styles. The Caribbean theme is strong with names such as St. Martin, Jamaican and Trinidad. Play it safe with the Pepperoni or Cheese pizza or go island style with selections such as the Barbados BBQ Chicken with wood roasted chicken breast, citrus barbeque sauce, caramelized onions and roasted red bell peppers or the Aruba with marinated lobster and tiger shrimp with spicy peppers, mozzarella cheese and alfredo sauce. Most pizzas are around $10.

The specials are worth a taste as well. Try the San Pedro Street Tacos. You get a choice of wood roasted chicken, hand pulled pork or fresh vegetables with chipotle sauce, green chiles, cheese, and cilantro in corn tortillas with red beans and rice ($12). If you like pork and have an appetite then the Yucatan Pork Stew is a hearty dish. The slow roasted seasoned pork shoulder is simmered with potatoes, tomatoes, serrano peppers and roasted garlic in a sweet pepper stew with Cilantro red beans and rice ($12).
Also good to know is that they offer specials on their website as well. Check out the weekend features section and you will find a page to print out to bring in for a free special of the week. Throw in one of the many Caribbean beer imports and you have a well rounded dinner Caribbean style. When you can eat like this for under $20 you can afford to head to the Caribbean all winter long!
