Liberate the Movement: "Artists for Political Awareness"

by Kable Reid

Hello all. This issue I am going to direct your attention to an organization that is about building awareness through positive activism and healthy forms of expressing one’s views through music and art. Now I’m not pushing more crap on ya like so many others out there. This is a cool thing because it’s based in music and art with a dash of personal social awareness.

Liberate The Movement is a community event that was put together by an organization called “Prolific Concepts” to promote political education and encourage voting participation through music, art, and social awareness. “Prolific Concepts” is an international collective of artists collaborating and networking together to creatively express artistry through positive outlets. It consists of artists from all mediums and genres, advancing their art and supporting the advancement of others.

This is an all ages event that is geared towards 18-30 year olds, the understanding of their choices, and the vitality of their social and political involvement. The organization says, “The Presidential Election on November 2nd 2004, like any other election, was an important event in our country and it is crucial that the future leaders of America have a strong voice.” The evening will talk about how to be informed on the issues important to you, positive activism, and healthy forms of expressing one’s views through music and art. Liberate The Movement has NO affiliation with any political party and opens its doors to all viewpoints and belief systems.

The last big night was on October 26th 2004 at the Century College Theatre in White Bear Lake. Their event featured a wide range of activities such as performances by Truth Maze, Out of Bounds, Dj Last Word, Manifesters, Dj Pseudonym, and others. They also help with voter registration, have informational booths, and speakers from the MN League of Women Voters, Young MN DFL, Century Rep. & Dem. Clubs, The Nader/ Camejo Campaign, and the MN Green Party.

Liberate The Movement: “Artists for Political Awareness” is also presented in part by the Manifesters, www.vigilantpromotions.com, “Education, Building and Growth Series” and Century College Student Life. The “Education, Building and Growth Series” has held two prior events at Century College, “Hiphop 4 Respect” in 2001 and “Hiphop Against Violence” in 2002.

Lots of things happening at this place so if you are just finding out about it I’m sorry you couldn’t join me and hope to see you at the next event! If you need more information here you go…
