Alonso Sierralta "Transplant"
Alonso Sierralta “Transplant”
New Sculpture November 5 - December
19
The work of Minneapolis based sculptor Alonso Sierralta, examines feelings of belonging and displacement in “Transplant” a show of his new work at the Gage Family Art Gallery at Augsburg College.

Sierralta, a native of Chile, uses combinations of natural and manufactured materials, primarily wood, to create structures that contrast organic and geometric forms. These forms depict the marriage or coexistence of two separate identities and serve as a metaphor for immigration. Cultural differences and adaptation are explored through beautifully combined elements such as wax and cedar, bracket fungus from a maple tree and copper, or tree stumps with roots still attached and 2X4’s, each material maintaining its own identity yet working with the others to form a new one.
