HIPHOP & ANARCHY

Twin Cities Celebration of Hiphop

It started out as something that most people thought was just another failed attempt of the Hiphop Community at trying to appear organized. Many people have thought of rappers as rude and violent, lacking community involvement as well as actual musical talent. Thanks to Yo! The Movement.org Hiphop’s true nature can be shown in its full glory for what it really is, nothing but real people from all sorts of backgrounds trying to do something positive for others as well as for themselves.

This years 3rd annual Twin Cities Celebration of Hiphop, August 21st-22nd, was in my opinion the best year yet. It had a wide range of musicians from national acts to numerous local groups with about fifty or so in all. It also had many other activities such as political workshops, youth voter registration, fashion shows, art, dance competitions, boxing, skateboarding, graffiti, low rider shows, food from all over the globe and of coarse poetry/slam.

N-E-S “Anarchy Smiles”
N-E-S is the new project in the works from two MC’s by the names Nomad and Ecid. Originally the MC collective was called Slawpy Words, but things changed over time. They just had the release party, August 13, for their first N-E-S album Anarchy Smiles. This album is a very fun collective of sounds and thoughts. Just to give you an idea of what is in store for your ears and mind with this debut album here are a few blurbs from the artists themselves.

MC Nomad-
I am an MC by the name of No-Mad, previously Random Task. Twenty years ago I was born. What a shitty day it was for the world. My anger towards life grows like a blossoming flower in the summer, but I stay optimistic as much as I can. Just think, at least we have toilets today or else the world would smell like shit!!! The only reason I get out of my bed in the morning is because I love girls with fat asses and I love to Rap...

My family is extremely important to me and they have saved my life unknowingly many many times. THANKS!! I LOVE YOU ALL...

I hate politics more then getting punched in the face. Most people close to me would say that I'm a lover not a fighter, But I beat the shit out of myself pretty much everyday, so I guess I'm both... In my opinion, Toaster Strudels are better then Pop-Tarts and everything I left out is obviously extremely unimportant....

Ecid The…-
“I was born August 8th, 1983 in Fridley, Minnesota. The rest is a normal childhood other then being raised by only my mother, due to my father who fled shortly after birth. At age13, I began writing rhymes and recording songs with beats from other rappers. I had an $8 mic and a CD/Cassette player, which produced a lot of shitty sounding basement songs. At age 15, I met another MC, The NaPalm, and then we started making more and more basement crap. Shortly after that we formed the group called MidWe$t Conspiracy. Then after some brief shortcomings we released the LP, The Cold Ass Twin Cities. At the time when I was young and still developing, I was called Greedy Dice.”

“When I reached the ripe old age of 18 I became Ecid The... and decided to go solo. Shortly after that, I had recorded and released my first solo album which I titled Stance-Sub Abusive and started a mission to make a name for myself in this world of Hiphop. The name Ecid originated from the name Greedy Dice, but I dropped the word Greedy and then decided to change it to Dice backwards. Basically I decided to change my name when I changed my style of music.”

“Just remember, the motto for this album, Anarchy Smiles, is simply complex.”
