There you are looking for a place to eat. Hmm, maybe Indian, or Mexican, Vietnamese, Soul, Chinese…There is only one place where all of these things are offered up by the people who know how to make it like it started. You know the place. Okay, I’m talking about eat street. And what word sounds good when talking about food…Yummy. Yes, Yummy, in the heart of eat street. It is housed in the same location as Chan’s Seafood Palace on the corner of 25th and Nicollet.

You’ll walk in to be greeted with two large menus and tanks of fresh fish that are not just for aesthetics. Don’t worry, you won’t miss a thing in this bright, homey environment. One feature I thoroughly enjoy is the sound of the high heat wok burners coming from the kitchen every time the door swings open. Keep your eyes and ears on it (it’s the one next to the live fish tanks).

The menus are full of all the staples you’ve come to expect from a Chinese restaurant like Noodle Soups, all ranging from $4.50 to$ 6.50, Egg Rolls, $3.25 for two, Steamed Dumplings $4.50 for eight and of course those wonderful Fish Balls $2.95 for six cuttlefish or $3.35 for shrimp. Of course there is no reason to go with the run of the mill as you will soon come to understand after trying to navigate your way through their menu of over 100 items, where else in town can you order up fried chicken feet? Pop them in your mouth whole and spit out the bones as you go, Chinese style. Or, go with the Razor Clams with XO sauce for $13.95. Better yet, walk over to the tanks and pick your prize. Fresh fish, crab, lobster, eel... If nothing else, it’s fun for the kids to look at, just don’t tell them that the one they choose is going home with them in his or her belly. I highly recommend the hot pots as well. The hot earthenware bowls that lend their name to the dish, keep it exactly hot, hot, hot, no matter how slow you eat. Beef Stew and Daikon ($11.95) a personal favorite. Tender pieces of stewed meat in a rich, silky beef sauce. The Clams with Ginger and Scallion ($12.95) will definitely clear those nasal passages. Don’t forget to check out one of their 20 or so tea and specialty drinks. Intimidated? Don’t be, the service staff will be happy to guide you through the menu.

With a full take out menu and dim sum every day of the week, it’s a must go destination for any one craving authentic Chinese food. The kind we don’t often get to see in these fine twin cities of ours.
