Ecid

by Kable Reid

Ecid is a rap artist and producer from one of the burbs just outside the music Mecca in Minnesota known as Minneapolis. Ecid is a kid that grew up with the Hiphop culture and is now trying his hand at the business. Minnesota is a place with high regard for the arts and has a colorful canvas of all types of music from all over the world. Having grown up here is what makes this independent artist very intent on being creative and finding his niche in the vast realm of rap music.

At this point, Ecid has just finished recording his first official LP release "Nineteen 80 Three". He is currently coordinating a spring/summer tour by way of college radio and press promotion as well as continuing his avid performing schedule throughout Minnesota with regular shows at The Steak Knife and The Red Sea. All of that hard work has lead up to the release of this album.

In 1999, Ecid started out as a member of the group Midwest Conspiracy who put out their first and last album in 2001. Shortly after the album was released, a disagreement broke out about the lack of participation by other members to help promote the album leading to an inevitable break-up. Ecid decided to stay solo and form Substance Abuse Music which now consists of three other solo artists; Sector Seven G, MC Nomad, and Super Mario MC. This led to the first of two promotional albums, the first of which was released in late 2002 and was followed up with a small radio campaign that resulted in air-play with 13 stations in 9 states; Arizona, California, Colorado, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Washington. The second release in 2003 was just to further the exposure of Substance Abuse Music throughout the Twin Cities. Now after much preparation Ecid’s debut solo project was just released as of January 2004 and is being sold through Cheapo, 5th Element, Mindstate, www.cdbaby.com, and www.substanceabusemusic.com. While performing all over the state Ecid has also just finished production on an album for label mate "Sector Seven G" and is currently in the works with MC Nomad (also on the S.A. label) for his LP titled "N-E-S".

He has come through many trials that have caused him to take the approach that "failure is an option, but stopping is not!" Ecid is truly an advocate of Hiphop and has tried to distance himself from commercialism or todays so called "street cred". He says it is because of where he is from, who he is, and the music he chooses to create. Isn’t that what music is all about? Ecid thinks it is! Thus, he has been motivated to fully promote his new album "Nineteen 80 Three" which is his first project that has been on time for the start of a new year maximizing his time between albums.
